Software you need to work with HTML Software you need to work with HTML

HTML is not a very complex programming language like C, C++ or Java. It is very easy to write and use. There are mainly two steps involved in creating webpages using HTML

  1. Step 1 - Writing HTML mark-up for a web page
  2. Step 2 - Opening the webpage to see the output

As a beginner you need to know about software which you need to perform these two tasks. The good thing about HTML is that you do not need any advance software to use it. Everything you need to work with HTML is already present on any computer you work on. These are the two software you need to work with HTML

  1. For writing HTML code - Any simple text editor present on a computer
  2. For opening a webpage to see the output - Any browser present on a computer

You can easily write and learn HTML on Windows, Linux and Mac. All these operating systems have both software easily available in them. If you are using Windows operating system then you can use Notepad to write your HTML code, if you are using Mac then you can use TextEdit to write your HTML code and if you are using Linux then you can use gEdit to write your HTML code. As long as you have a plain text editor available on your computer you can write HTML code easily.

Note : By plain text editor we mean a software using which you can write your text and it does not apply any formatting to your text. It should consider the text you write as it is. Advance text editors like MS Word apply a lot of formatting to your text and do not let you create plain text documents.

After you write your HTML code you will need a browser to open your web page and see the output. By default, every operating system comes with an inbuilt browser. You will find Internet Explorer installed on Windows, Safari browser installed on Mac and Mozilla Firefox installed on Linux. Apart from the default browser you can also install additional browsers by downloading them from the internet. Because different people will be using different browsers to visit your websites, it is a good practice to test your web page in all popular browsers. These are the most popular browsers which are used by internet users across the globe

  1. Mozilla Firefox
  2. Google Chrome
  3. Internet Explorer
  4. Apple Safari
  5. Opera

As a web developer it is important for you to download and install all these browsers on your computer and make sure that you test your webpages in all these browsers.

No compiler needed for HTML

HTML is very different from other programming languages like C, C++, JAVA, C# etc. Like other programming languages you do not need a compiler to compile your HTML. HTML is an interpreted language, which means that after you write your HTML code you do not have to compile it before you can see its output. You can directly open it inside a browser to see its output. The browser will read your HTML code line by line, interpret its meaning and show you the final output. If there is an error in the HTML code you write the browser will not complain about this error, all that will happen is that the browser will not be able to understand your code and will not display the correct output.

With a plain text editor and a browser available you are not ready to write your HTML code.
