Where are all .net assemblies kept in your computer

When you install the .net framework (mostly it is pre-installed with all the modern day Window operating systems) all the .net assemblies are installed on your computer. It is important for you to know where to find these assemblies.  There are two main places where you can look for all the .net assemblies.

Global Assembly Cache (GAC)

This is a folder which stores pointers to all the .net assemblies stored on your computer. The dll’s are not actually stored in this folder, it just points to all the dll’s which are kept in other folders
You can find the GAC at c:windowsassembly

Microsoft.net Framework Folder

All the .net assemblies are actually stored in the Microsoft.net Framework folders organized as per their framework version. You can find these dll’s at

C:WindowsMicrosoft.NETFramework
Or
C:WindowsMicrosoft.NETFramework64

folders. This is what you will see in these folders when you go to this location

Microsoft .net framework folder

See how all the .net assemblies are organized as per their framework version number. You can go inside each of these folders and see the dll’s.
